Charges:
For a home visit my call out fee is £45 and includes the first hour of work. If its likely that the work will take more than an hour I will volunteer to remove the PC or laptop to my office, where I will continue to work on it.
If you need me to resolve the problem on your premises I will charge £45 for the first hour and £35 for each hour thereafter. Note that I charge in 30 minute sections so you will not pay a full hour if, for example, I take 25 minutes extra time to fix your problem. Again, if this is likely to be the case I will let you know (usually on the phone before I see you) and I will take the machine away to repair. For example, I won’t spend five hours in your home if your PC demands this much time. I’ll do the bulk of my work in my office and charge my standard rate - usually £45 plus parts.
I understand that times are tough and we are all working hard to survive on the budgets we’ve set ourselves. There are no surprise charges or fees and all my costs are clearly explained well in advance. I try very hard to provide quality free solutions to save you money buying virus checkers, spyware solutions, Microsoft Office suites and so forth. When you consider that a typical anti virus solution costs about £40 and that Microsoft Office retails at between £70 and £230 you could save hundreds of pounds letting me install perfectly suitable free solutions.
A Typical Clean Up:
For £45 you’ll typically receive the following service. In total your PC will receive about five hours worth of attention.
- Virus, malware and spyware removal. A deep “offline” anti virus scan is performed and this can take between three and eight hours. Every file is scanned, which means that the tiniest roots of any malware or virus are completely removed.
- Hard disk health inspection / manufacturer’s diagnostic report.
- Thermal check of CPU, harddrive and 45 minute sustained stress testing of system.
- Damage to Windows system files repaired.
- Damage to Windows file system structure repaired.
- All Windows components updated.
- Java, Flash, Acrobat Reader and installed software updates performed where relevant (i.e., an update will be avoided if it causes a known issue).
- Temporary files removed.
- Windows prefetch cleaned.
- Laptop battery tested.
- Laptop power settings optimised.
- Hard disk defragmented and scheduled for regular defragmentation.
5 Hours Per Computer for Only £45? How?
Well, in all honesty I’m not working just on your computer for five hours. My automated tools are working and I’m supervising and interacting with them. My actual time spent works out at about 2 to 3 hours. This is a unique and comprehensive method and I have a customised workstation in my office that allows me to work on numerous machines at once. I can guarantee that your system will be 100% clean of viruses and spyware when you get it back. A quick virus scan usually will mean that you’ll get a recurrent infection within a month or two as the “roots” of the virus will still be present. My deep scans ensure that your PC is completely virus free before you get it back. My work is guaranteed for 90 days.
I usually work on my software developments and support for blind computer users whilst I am waiting for scans to complete, software to install, backups to complete, etc, etc. So, you can see there is no financial incentive for me to spend more time at your home (with money coming out of your wallet or purse) than is absolutely necessary.
